This medal was chosen as the 114th issue of the prestigious Society of Medalists series in 1986.

The obverse bears textured globe with chain of four putto-like but wingless children dancing around equator.

The reverse bears space with huge moon in upper left and tiny earth at lower right; space is spangled with four-pointed stars. At lower left, signed ASH

Alex Shagin delivered a poem to describe the intent of his medal:

And children are our hopes.
Every artist and every family is looking
Into the future for their children...
Where there is harmony and peace in the world.

The medal measures 73mm in diameter and was produced by the Medallic Art Company. It is reported to have struck 750 pieces in bronze.
