"Dawn to Dusk" by Moissaye Marans

Dawn to Dusk 1978
by Moissaye Marans
SOM-98.1
Smooth golden bronze with dark brown patina
SOM-98.2
Silver

This medal was chosen as the 98th issue of the prestigious Society of Medalists series in 1978.

The obverse bears mother kissing child above rising sun on deeply recessed field. Across, DAWN

The reverse bears woman and daughter kneeling over bowl above setting sun. Across, DUSK

This was the only medal that was released after its sculptor had died. Moissaye Marans died in 1977, after creating a beautiful and unusual design for the Society. The medal combines deep recesses with smooth lines and intense dark patination. In my opinion, this medal is one of the most interesting designs that combines elements of Art Deco with modernism.

This medal measures 73mm in diameter and was struck by the Medallic Art Company of Danbury, Connecticut. The reported production quantity of this medal is 750 pieces in bronze and 150 in silver.
