"Spring Wind - Autumn Wind" by Laszlo Ispanky

Spring Wind - Autumn Wind 1974
by Laszlo Ispanky
SOM-89.1
Golden bronze with tan patina

This medal was chosen as the 89th issue of the prestigious Society of Medalists series in 1974.

The obverse shows pert-breasted, semi-draped girl seated, with wind-blown hair. Border of flowers; to left, SPRING WIND

The reverse shows a shirtless youth from behind. Border of leaves; to left, AUTUMN WIND; below, (LI monogram) © 1974

After two philosophically oriented medals by Kaufman and Grove this medal represented a return to lighter-hearted subject matters. Ispanky was fascinated by the seasons and tied the beauty of youth into the medal as well. He wrote:

"The cycle of the seasons represents life itself, weathering continuing changes from birth through maturity."

The medal measures 73mm in diameter and was struck by the Medallic Art Company of New York. Its reported mintage is 809 pieces in bronze.
